We receive a call from a customer from the city of Palo Alto. The initial problem as Viking DDSB483 refrigerator no ice. Icemakers usually last for 10 years and need replacement pretty often, that’s why I always keep them in stock. This way I provide same day repair to my customers.
But before just to quote for icemaker replacement I lie to test all the components which are responsible for ice production in the unit.
First I tested if electrical power goes to the icemaker with the multimeter.
Second I hooked up wire jumper to specific holes on the icemaker with activates water valve. In this case, I manually activate the water valve and got my water flow to the icemaker. This means that the water valve is OK and no need to replace it.
After those procedures, I can determine that the problem is icemaker itself and not the other components of the fridge.
I offer Icemaker replacement to the customer and got permission to proceed with the repair.
On the side by side Viking refrigerators, it is actually very easy to swap the icemakers and takes only 15 minutes from start to finish.
Finally, I always perform a full test for the new icemaker to check that all cycles are working properly. And, also I check the level of water in the icemaker tray after filling the water. All trays supposed to fill up evenly with the right amount of water.
Another happy customer and this time easy and fats repair call.
